Through TCG Gives, each quarter we partner with a local nonprofit making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. For the third quarter of 2026, we're honored to support the Michigan Animal Welfare Foundation (MIAWF)—an organization that has spent more than two decades helping animal rescues across Michigan continue their lifesaving work.
Unlike many animal organizations, MIAWF doesn't operate a shelter. Instead, they focus on something equally important: raising funds and awareness for the rescue organizations that are on the front lines every day caring for neglected, abused, and homeless animals.
Since its founding, MIAWF has raised more than $1.57 million to support local animal welfare organizations throughout Michigan.
We recently had the opportunity to speak with founder Michelle, who shared more about the organization's mission, what keeps her motivated after 20 years, and how all of us can help.
Meet the Michigan Animal Welfare Foundation
For someone who has never heard of MIAWF, how would you describe what you do?
"We are a grassroots, all-volunteer organization that hosts two premier fundraising events each year, with all proceeds benefiting local animal welfare groups."
Every dollar raised goes back into the community to support organizations caring for animals in need.
MIAWF doesn't run a shelter itself. What inspired the decision to support multiple organizations instead?
"These organizations are on the front lines doing the tough stuff, and we want to support their heroic efforts to help animals in need, which are at epidemic levels."
Rather than focusing on one facility, MIAWF helps strengthen an entire network of rescues that work tirelessly every day to save animals throughout Michigan.
What types of organizations do you look to support?
"Nonprofits, many of whom consist of volunteers themselves, who rescue, care for, and find homes for less fortunate animals in our community."
The common thread is simple: organizations driven by compassion and dedicated to giving animals a second chance.
How did the Michigan Animal Welfare Foundation get started?
"Someone suggested, 'Why not use our platform and business to do something to give back to the community?' I had no idea just how much passion would pour out of me to help animals in need."
Michelle says while she may not be on the front lines of animal rescue every day, she found another way to make an impact.
"Those organizations who help them are my heroes. I don't think I'm as strong as they are to do that work every day, but I can fundraise and create awareness for the incredible work they do."
After more than 20 years, what accomplishment are you most proud of?
Michelle's answer wasn't about numbers.
"I don't know that I feel so much pride as I do sorrow, because after 20 years I still have to say they need us now more than ever. That is heartbreaking."
She continued:
"I'm just glad to be doing something about it. I feel deep gratitude for everyone who supports our efforts because this isn't one organization's problem—it's a community-wide problem. We all have to do what we can to remain a voice for those who cannot speak."
That community effort has resulted in more than $1.57 million raised for local animal welfare organizations—a remarkable testament to what people can accomplish together.
What does it mean to have local businesses supporting your work?
"Simply put, we cannot do this alone."
Michelle emphasized that local businesses make these fundraising events possible.
"Businesses like The Computer Guys sponsor our events so we can continue helping these poor souls who need a second chance."
As a local business ourselves, we're incredibly proud to stand alongside organizations making such a tangible impact in our communities.
Besides adopting a pet, how can people support animal welfare?
Not everyone is in a position to adopt, but Michelle says there are countless ways to make a difference.
"Volunteer. Most organizations operate on a shoestring—both in budget and manpower."
She also encourages people to sponsor events, donate, or simply help spread awareness.
"The burnout rate within animal rescue is high because the need is so great. It's not the organizations' problem—it's our collective community problem, and we can all do something to help."

This fun community event brings together animal lovers, local businesses, and supporters from across Michigan to raise critical funding for animal rescue organizations.
Whether you bowl, donate, sponsor a lane, or simply cheer everyone on, you'll be helping provide resources to the organizations working every day to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. There is also an adoption event earlier in the day with adoptable dogs looking for their new family.
